Our History

Woodhead Heritage operates as a sector of Robert Woodhead Ltd. Robert Woodhead Ltd are a medium sized main contractor,  undertaking new build, refurbishment and restoration work across the East Midlands and Yorkshire.

Robert Woodhead Ltd was formed in 1947 by the present Managing Director's father, (Robert Woodhead).  The company was incorporated in 1978 and David Woodhead became Managing Director in 1979, following the death of his father.  The company remains wholly owned by the Woodhead family.

Since the early 1990's the company's turnover has grown year-on-year.  This sustained growth has been founded on provision of a high quality service and securing a high degree of repeat business from public and private sector clients, including Nottinghamshire County Council, Babcock Dyncorp, Local Authorities, Center Parcs, the National Trust, and various Housing Associations in the East Midlands.

Woodhead Heritage has been borne out of the number of successful and award winning projects Woodhead have carried out in this sector over the last 10 years. The most recent award winning projects being the £2.6 million restoration of Cusworth Hall for Doncaster Metropolitan District Council, winner of the FMB Master Builder of the Year 2007.

We have also carried out projects with The National Trust, including the £3 million restoration of Southwell Workhouse and projects for private clients, including Hexgrave Hall, winner of the FMB Master Builder of the Year 2005.

Recently Woodhead Heritage have completed works on two scheduled ancient monuments for English Heritage, namely Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall.
